"The reason that story is so basic to us is that life itself has a narrative shape - a beginning and end, plot and characters, conflict and resolution. Life isn't an accumulation of abstractions such as love and truth, sin and salvation, atonement and holiness; life is the realization of details that all connect organically, personally, specifically: names and fingerprints, street numbers and local weather, lamb for supper and a flat tire in the rain."

- Eugene Peterson (from "Leap over a Wall")

FEEDBACK PROGRAM FOR ASPIRING SCREENWRITERS
Video Production Sacramento

We receive many script submission requests from aspiring screenwriters who put tremendous effort into creating. Unfortunately, most of these scripts are fundamentally flawed from a structural or storytelling point of view to the point where we cannot consider them for production. Because of the volume of scripts we receive, we cannot provide specific feedback when we choose to not pursue a script. Occasionally the main reason we pass is the subject matter or personal preference of a reviewer, producer, or investor. More than 90% of the time however, the reason we pass is simply the quality of the story or the writing.

Because of that statistic, we offer a program to help storytellers see their script from a producer's point of view. This program is different from screenwriting classes or seminars you may take. It is not interactive and it is not designed to help you figure out what story to tell or how to tell it. What it IS designed to do is to give you a critical review of your script from a producer's perspective.

As long as your script does not have NC-17 elements, we would be happy to encourage you in your script's development. Here's how it works:

  • Print the enrollment form by clicking here.

  • Follow the instructions on the form which will have you mail a paper copy of your script, the completed form, and a check for $235.

  • When your package arrives, the form will be seperated from your script and it will follow our normal process by being routed to an initial reviewer.

  • After the initial reviewer finishes, it will be returned to the incoming script office with his or her completed review sheet.

  • In about 75% of the cases, the script will be marked as "do not pursue" by the initial reviewer. Under normal circumstances, our review process would then end. However, because you are enrolled in the program, your script will follow the other scripts, being passed on to the next step which is review by a producer.

  • The producer will review your script and complete a seperate analysis form. In almost all of these cases, the producer chooses not to pursue the project. If your script is enrolled in the program, the producer will receive the script back indicating that you have paid for the feedback program. If the producer has not read your script all the way through, he will do so and write you a letter indicating what he sees as the areas for improvement in the story, issues relating to marketability, legal concerns, and other elements which would make it more attractive for production.

  • You will receive the completed package back within about 4 weeks from the time of your original submission.
